2019 MCA National Show Huston TX

The 1st MCA National held in Huston TX at the Lone Star Flight Museum March 29 – 31. The weather was the coolest that I’ve had in the last three years of going to Huston in March. At least the rain side-stepped the actual show field. As part of the show the museum offered flights on some of their aircraft. A B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Mitchell, P-51 Mustang and a Stearman biplane. When the flights took off they circled around and flew over the show field. MCA national director Tim Hahn piloted the last B-17 flight on Sat. A side from the usual nice selection of Mustangs, there was one that totally jumped out at me. There was this one 1970 Warbird Tribute Mustang. It started out by me over hearing someone say “He’s going to start it”. From about thirty feet away I heard what sounded like a P-51 airplane starting. I was thinking, I got to see how they stuffed a V-12 Merlin into this car. To find out the car only has a 302 in it. But what the car does have is one heck of a sound system and some assume sound tracks of an actual P-51. The 302 sounded pretty good all by its self. Thanks to some bad ass cams and other internal goodies. It has wheels the match the P-51, custom steering wheel & dash and exhaust that exited thru the fenders. I’m trying to see if I can get some video of this car to bring to a club meeting later on. Bill the owner told me that he also had some very impressive sound tracks of the machine guns firing. He was instructed not to play it during the show. The very dirty 1967 Shelby GT 350 is a 1 of 1 barn find. Wonder what it will be worth when restored. Then to top it all off, during the awards presentations, when Steve Prewitt got to the ODF class awards, he called Roland Rodriguez’s name. He then proceeded to instruct him to bring a friend, or two, or three. Steve then proceeded to inform the crowd that Roland had 21 cars entered in the show. Roland racked up a bunch of gold and silver awards. I managed only one gold, but that brings me to needing just two more points to get my first medallion………..Kamos
